MCALLEN, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Members of the Texas Congressional delegation, led by House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Michael McCaul, visited the Texas-Mexico border this weekend for a tour of Border Patrol operations.
McCaul (R-Austin) was joined on the tour by Reps. Henry Cuellar (D-Laredo), Monica de la Cruz (R-McAllen), and Randy Weber (R-Beaumont).
In a wide-ranging, exclusive interview with Talk 1370's Jim Cardle, McCaul called the situation on the border "extremely serious." "I think that's why I'm down here with my fellow Texans," said McCaul. "Certainly on my side of the aisle, border security is the number one issue, and with good reason - we've had eight million encounters, 300 on the terror watch list come into the United States, and almost 200,000 young people have died due to fentanyl poisoning."
The delegation toured the border and CBP operations ahead of a scheduled trip to Mexico City Sunday to speak with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and other Mexican officials.
"We don't need more money thrown down here," said McCaul. "We need a change in policies."
McCaul also addressed Republican efforts to impeach Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his alleged mishandling of the border. "I think everything he's done, he's qualified for that impeachment," said McCaul.
