Republican Senator Marjorie Taylor Greene, normally a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, warned the president that he risks losing his base if he doesn't release the Epstein files.
As Attorney General Pam Bondi, a Trump appointee, seems to keep hemming and hawing about why the files aren't being released in full -- after she crowed previously on numerous occasions that a list of Epstein clients would be released, Greene emphasized that Trump's supporters want the whole truth, not just bits of information.
She says they'll turn on him if he doesn't deliver.
This warning came as two other things happened on the Epstein front: Speaker of the House Mike Johnson shut down a session early today -- sending members away for a one-month break -- when Democrats tried to force a vote to release the Epstein files. And The Wall Street Journal released a report saying the DOJ had given the president a heads-up in May that he appears in the files in numerous spots.
Trump is already suing the WSJ for printing a sexually suggestive note allegedly written by Trump to Epstein wishing him a happy birthday alongside a crude drawing of a naked woman and references to secrets they shared. Trump denied creating the image and did direct Bondi to release "some documents" in the case.
But the message coming through loud and clear is the MAGA base wants more. To that end, the House Committee on Oversight is advancing a resolution to subpoena Epstein’s former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, for a deposition.
“If you tell the base of people, who support you, of deep state treasonous crimes, election interference, blackmail, and rich powerful elite evil cabals, then you must take down every enemy of The People,” Greene posted to social media.
“If not,” she continued, “The base will turn and there’s no going back. Dangling bits of red meat no longer satisfies. They want the whole steak dinner and will accept nothing else.”
