Texas lawmakers received an update this week on the state’s ongoing efforts to expand its border wall, with officials reporting progress toward a goal of 100 miles by 2026.
Mike Novak, executive director of the Texas Facilities Commission, told lawmakers that approximately 60 miles of wall have been completed, with additional land secured for further construction.
When combined with natural barriers such as lakes and canyons, Novak said roughly 10% of Texas’ border with Mexico will be walled off once the project is complete.
The border wall has been a focus of Republican leaders in Texas, particularly under former President Donald Trump, as part of broader state-led border security initiatives.
