MIDLAND, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- Officials in Midland say one person has died and several others were injured after an active shooter incident on the south side of the city Friday morning.

Midland officials say the incident started around 8 a.m., first as a shooting on the southeast side of the city and transitioning to a scene on the southwest side in the 4600 block of West Wall Street near Industrial Avenue.

Authorities were reportedly involved in a standoff with the shooter in an effort to bring the incident to a safe resolution. Later, officials confirmed that the suspect had died.

"The situation is now secured in that area, but we're still asking that all Midlanders stay put," Midland mayor Lori Blong said during a morning press conference. "If you're in that area, you don't need to be out and driving around or going to try to see anything."

Midland Memorial Hospital said four people were in the operating room and five others were in stable condition.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
