Starting Monday, students in the Dallas ISD are no longer required to wear masks.
The district has had a mask mandate in place since the onset of the COVID-10 pandemic began, openly defying Texas Governor Greg Abbott's anti-mandate orders. But now, students get to decide what they want to do.
This decision reflects the recent change in COVID-19 guidelines from the CDC. Basically it says if you're healthy and the COVID-19 level in your community isn't high, you don't need to wear a mask.
The DISD is still recommending masks, officially. District leaders say if cases start rising again, they could bring the mask mandate back.
Dallas County has revised its mask policies, as well. County leaders have dropped the indoor mask requirement except for inside jails, care facilities and health care settings.
Masks are still recommended for the elderly and people who have weak immune systems.
