DALLAS (NewsRadio 1080 KRLD/Talk1370.com) -- American Airlines canceled hundreds of flights at DFW Airport Wednesday due to freezing rain that fell across much of North Texas.

This week’s winter storm is expected to have a significant impact on our operation, especially in Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW). The vast majority of impacted flights have been canceled in advance so we could proactively notify and accommodate our customers and avoid last-minute disruptions at the airport. Additionally, we issued a travel notice to allow customers whose travel plans are impacted by the storm to rebook without change fees. We apologize to our customers whose travel plans may be affected and want to thank our team who are working tirelessly to help us safely care for our customers,” American Airlines wrote in a written statement.

Including American and other carriers, more than 600 flights were canceled in and out of DFW International Airport as of Wednesday morning.

DFW Airport has sent KRLD the following statement as they continue to keep an eye on the current weather event:

"Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) continues to monitor the winter weather event with the National Weather Service (NWS). Overnight, Airport operations began treatment of runways and taxiways on the airfield, and bridges, overpasses and roadways on the landside of the Airport. In preparation for freezing temperatures, treatment will continue throughout the day and night. Customers are encouraged to check flight details with their airlines before heading to the Airport."

Nearly 100 arriving and departing flights were canceled at Love Field as of Wednesday morning.

Another 450 have already been taken off the board at DFW for Thursday.

These numbers will undoubtedly go up through the day, so you'll have to check with your airline if you have travel plans in the next couple of days.
