AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- State officials on Thursday raised the death toll from last month's winter storm and resulting power blackouts to at least 111 people, nearly doubling the initial tally.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, the majority of the deaths are associated with hypothermia. The tally is an increase from the preliminary tally of 57 deaths announced earlier this month.

The storm and the resulting power outages left more than 4 million electric customers across the state without power, and officials say the death toll could continue to rise as more deaths are linked to the storm.

Investigations into the disaster continue at the congressional and state levels, and has resulted in a number of resignations at the Electric Reliability Council of Texas and the state's Public Utility Commission.
