The organization that operates the Texas electrical grid, ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas), is now calling for voluntary conservation of electricity from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today.
ERCOT says it is not in emergency operations, not yet. They are asking Texans to conserve power so that they don't have to enter emergency mode, which may include rolling blackouts.
Current grid conditions say demand for power during the conservation time may exceed the generated supply on hand.
Ways you can cut back: raising your thermostat a few degrees, not running large appliances like the washer & dryer or electric stove, and unplugging any electronics that aren't in use.
