A federal judge in Fort Worth has sentenced a Denton man to 15 years for sex-trafficking a minor.
Court reports say 31-year old William Adam Jonathon Smith (aka Detroit) was convicted by a Federal jury in just one day on federal charges for turning a 17-year old into a prostitute.
Prosecutors say Smith was already dating a prostitute when he met the victim. The girlfriend, Charity Cantu, trained the victim to work in the commercial sex trade.
Report say Cantu would drive the victim from hotel to hotel for hookups, and then she and Smith would pocket all the money.
Cantu pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 2-years in federal prison.
Federal Judge Reed O’Connor came down heavy on Smith, imposing the 15-year prison term.
The Texas Attorney General’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation with the assistance of the Denton Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Doug Allen and Brandie Wade tried the case.
