The state's former Lt. Governor David Dewhurst spent the night in the Dallas County jail after being arrested on a domestic violence charge.

According to Dallas Police, officers were called to the 3300 block of West Mockingbird Lane, near Dallas Love Field on a disturbance call.

An arrest sheet is giving new details into the incident that landed Dewhurst in jail.

According to the document, Dallas Police were called to a “major disturbance” at a hotel at 3300 West Mockingbird around 5:30 Tuesday afternoon.  A hotel manager directed police to a woman who was sitting on a concrete bench.  The report says the woman had “been in an intimate dating relationship” with Dewhurst for “approximately 2.5 years.”

The document describes a bizarre fight over a laptop computer which led to an injury.

The woman and Dewhurst were boarding a bus outside the hotel when she “remembered that she had (Dewhurst’s) laptop and briefcase.  The laptop in question was a shared laptop both (Dewhurst) and (the woman) had access to.” the report says.    The woman stated that she was holding Dewhurst’s laptop when a chase suddenly began outside the hotel doorway, the report says.  No reason for why the chase or fight is detailed in the report.

Dallas Police say they review a surveillance video that confirmed rhe events.  Police say the video shoes Dewhurst chasing the woman to the concrete bench area.  It says Dewhurst pushed woman “to the ground and was pushing her away towards the concrete bench causing the woman to hit her head against the bench causing her to feel pain.” the report says.

The woman told police Dewhurst took the laptop, she pursued Dewhurst, caught back up to Dewhurst “at which time the ap (Dewhurst) pushed the complainant’s head down and kept her bent over while he was speaking to another individual.” according to the report.

The woman was taken to DPD headquarters and was interviewed by the police department’s public integrity, the report says.

Dewhurst was arrested for assault/family violence.

He later posted bond and left the jail.

Dewhurst served as the Texas Lieutenant Governor from 2003 to 2015. He ran for U.S. Senate in 2012 but lost the race for the Republican nomination to Ted Cruz in a runoff.

In 2014, Dewhurst lost his bid for a fourth term as lieutenant governor in a primary runoff against Dan Patrick.
