AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Former state Sen. Don Huffines says he'll challenge Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in next year's Republican primary.
Huffines, a Republican from Dallas, said Monday it's "time to root out corruption in the Austin swamp." In a Tweet, Huffines says if elected, he'll "finish the [border] wall, lower our taxes, and protect our elections."
Huffines represented District 16 in the Texas Senate from 2015 until 2019, losing a re-election bid to Democrat Nathan Johnson.
Abbott is up for a third term in 2022. The filing deadline for the March 1 primary is December 13.
