The flood recovery effort in one area of the Texas Hill County is going into a new phase this week.

Millions raised through the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country will help fund a $40-million repair and rebuild program in Hunt, Texas in Kerr County.

Hunt Preservation Society Board member John Dunn tells NBC5 a full economic recovery will take quite some time.

“A full recovery means the river is going strong and back to being beautiful, the summer camps are at 100% capacity, The Hunt Store is up and going and is the hub of the community as it always is,” Dunn said.

“The river is responsible for the camps. The camps are responsible for the store. The camps are responsible for the short-term rental business that we have here,” he said.

Nearly two months following the catastrophic flooding, most of the survivors who lost property are in temporary housing.

Many of them could be back home by the end of the year.
