AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has defeated incumbent Sen. John Cornyn for the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate.
As of 8 p.m. with polls closed across the state, Paxton led Cornyn by just over 25 percentage points, with more than 514,000 votes.
Paxton earned President Donald Trump's endorsement last week.
Cornyn, who was first elected to the Senate in 2002 and was looking to be elected for a fifth term, had not lost a race in his political career.
Paxton will now proceed to November's general election, where he will face Democratic nominee James Talarico.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
