AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- For the first time in more than a century, a statewide official is set to face impeachment in the Texas Senate, with the impeachment trial of Ken Paxton set to get underway.
Paxton's trial will get underway at 9 a.m. at the Capitol, where the Senate chambers have been re-organized into something resembling a courtroom.
Senators will consider 16 of the 20 articles of impeachment approved by the House in May by a 121-23 vote.
Tuesday's proceedings will start with the impeachment court - Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick and the 30 senators - hearing pretrial motions, including a motion from Paxton's counsel seeking to dismiss all of the articles of impeachment.
Once all of the motions have been dealt with, both sides will get 60 minutes to deliver their opening statements.
