PORTLAND, Ore. (Talk1370.com/NewsRadio 1080 KRLD) -- The Portland City Council plans to vote on an emergency resolution that would ban future travel, and goods and services from the state of Texas.
The vote to ban everything Texas is in response to the most restrictive abortion ban in the country that was recently signed into law by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
The city’s Mayor, Ted Wheeler, announced that the council will vote on the resolution on Wednesday, September 8th.
If passed, the city would ban the procurement of goods and services and city employees would be prohibited from traveling to Texas for business travel.
The ban would remain in effect until the state of Texas withdraws the abortion law or until it is overturned in court.
Portland’s legal counsel is looking into the legal aspects of the proposed resolution.
