Richardson man held without bond for Capitol siege

A U.S. Magistrate today ordered Garrett Miller, Richardson, detained until trial for charges connected to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Miller is facing charges of Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Buildings or Grounds Without Lawful Authority, Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct on Capitol Grounds, Obstructing or Impeding Any Official Proceeding, Certain Acts During Civil Disorder and Threats in Interstate Commerce.

In a string of tweets to a U.S. House of Representatives member, MILLER first claims, “We acted with honor and we where [sic] not armed. We where [sic] gentle with the police. They murdered a child.” a statement of facts in the court filing says “He then further directed, “Assassinate [House member].”

Miller’s attorney issued a statement that suggested Miller was taking directions from President Trump, who claimed the election was stolen.

“Until very recently, I really had never been very interested in nor involved with politics.” the statement says.  Nevertheless, What Donald Trump had been saying about the election really got to me and I felt I had to support him.  Still, I recognize that I am soley responsible for my actions and that there are no excuses for what I did.”

He did not intend to harm Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez, according to the statement.
