Dogs come in all shapes and sizes, with hundreds of different breeds throughout the species. Every dog lover has a favorite, with many picking a canine companion that matches their lifestyle. For Texans, some breeds are better than others, and a new study have revealed the top five dog breeds for the state.

Pet website Hepper recently released a study on the top dog breeds in Texas. Based on their research, the study found that the top breed choice for Texans was the Blue Lacy. “The Blue Lacy is the official state dog breed of Texas. The breed was developed around the 1800s with the purpose of helping people with herding, hunting, and ranch work in the state of Texas specifically,” said Hepper.

According to CW33, the other dogs in the top five were golden retriever, French bulldog, Labrador retriever, and Yorkshire terrier. The study also ranked Texas 28th in pet ownership with 58.2% of pet-owning households in the state. Clearly more Texans need to get on the dog bandwagon.
