AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texans who work in schools across the state, including teachers, staff, and bus drivers, are now eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccination.
The new expanded eligibility comes from the Texas Department of State Health Services, under direction from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, expanding those eligible to “those who work in pre-primary, primary, and secondary schools, as well as Head Start and Early Head Start programs (including teachers, staff, and bus drivers) and those who work as or for licensed child care providers, including center-based and family care providers.”
Providers are still encouraged to vaccinate those 65 and older first.
The move comes as some educators are concerned over Gov. Greg Abbott's ending of a statewide mask mandate next week. The Texas Education Agency says it will have revised guidance for schools to follow in the coming days.
