TWC rules jobless Texans can no longer refuse job offers because of coronavirus fears

The rules are changing for those receiving unemployment payments in the state of Texas.

From now on, fear of contracting the Coronavirus will not be an acceptable reason for turning down a job.

Beginning June 26th, jobless Texans will not receive unemployment if they turn down job offers because they feel the work is not safe.

The Texas Workforce Commission gave its ruling yesterday, rescinding a practice that gave unemployed workers permission to refuse a job for medical reasons and still keep receiving unemployment.

TWC cites steeply declining COVID-19 case counts and easy access to vaccines.

This is part of the state government's efforts to return the Texas unemployment system to pre-pandemic practices.

Last month, Governor Abbott announced Texas would, effective June 26th, stop providing an added $300 a week in federally subsidized unemployment payments.
