Mexico elected Claudia Sheinbaum as its new president on Sunday and Texas business leaders are thrilled with the results. They feel Sheinbaum, the country's first woman elected president, will help expand bi-national trade.

"As nearshorting accelerates, this is something that Dr. Sheinbaum strongly supports," Glenn Hamer, who heads the Texas Association of Business, said. "She's been on record a number of times saying she wants to enhance the trading relationship"

Hamer predicts that the advanced manufacturing industry will blossom under Sheinbaum's administration. There is also an opportunity for the state's energy sector that he predicts will be part of an updated free trade agreement.
