WACO, Texas (Talk1370.com) -- A Texas state trooper who was shot multiple times Friday night will be taken off of life support once he's able to become an organ donor, officials announced Monday.

Texas Hihgway Patrol Trooper Chad Walker "no longer displays signs of viable brain activity," according to a Facebook post from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

"This final sacrifice embodies Trooper Walker's actions throughout his life and service as a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper," the Facebook post from Texas DPS said. "The Walker family is grateful for the continued support and prayers as they remain at Chad's side."

Walker was shot multiple times Friday night outside of Mexia after stopping on the side of FM 2383 to help a person with a disabled vehicle. That person, who has been identified at DeArthur Pinson Jr., allegedly shot Walker before fleeing the scene. The shooting prompted the issuance of a Blue Alert, which means authorities are looking for someone who was thought to have critically injured or killed a member of law enforcement.

Pinson Jr., was found dead at a residence on Highway 84, west of Mexia. Officials believe he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
