Texas Governor Greg Abbott has sent a letter to President Biden requesting a Presidential Disaster Declaration for counties in Texas that suffered damage during the ice storm earlier this month.
If the White House approves the request, it would make those counties eligible for federal aid through FEMA's Public Assistance program to pay for debris removal and repairs to public facilities.
The initial survey by Texas shows that local governmental agencies have reported more than $63 million worth of damage to public infrastructure, including local electricity infrastructure.
The Governor's request covers Bastrop, Blanco, Burleson, Burnet, Caldwell, Delta, Denton, Falls, Hays, Henderson, Hopkins, Hunt, Kendall, Lamar, Lee, Leon, Milam, Red River, Robertson, Shelby, Smith, Travis, and Williamson counties.
