Dallas (1080 KRLD) - Texas continues to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic adding more than 34,000 non-farm jobs in May. In total, the unemployment rate dropped slightly to 6.5%, according to figures from the Texas Workforce Commission.
Overall job gains were more than double what they were in April. However, there were still more than 900,000 Texans unemployed last month which is 77% higher than just before the pandemic began.
The largest sectors hiring in May were restaurants and hotels which gained more than 14,000 new jobs.
