“The surge of individuals unlawfully crossing the Texas-Mexico border poses an ongoing and imminent threat of disaster for certain counties and agencies in the State of Texas,” Abbot said in his letter to Major Gen. Tracey Norris.
Abbot said that more “manpower” is required to secure the border and respond to this threat.
Citing his power vested in the Texas Constitution, Gov. Abbott ordered the Texas National Guard to beef up his efforts to “arrest lawbreakers at the border.”
In June, Abbott said Texas would continue to build the border wall promised by former President Donald Trump and called on other state governors to send law enforcement and soldiers to the border.
