Buildings are damaged, cars are destroyed and nerves are frazzled in Jacksboro where a reported tornado touched down yesterday.

The reported twister did heavy damage to Jacksboro High School and Elementary where parents waiting to pick up their kids had to scramble inside for protection.

Some of the cars they quickly vacated were upended by the ferocious winds. “You see the damage here. It’s just a miracle [that nobody was killed]” said Jacksboro Police Chief Scott Haynes.

There's such a mess that all Jacksboro schools will remain closed through the week, including after-school practices and sporting events.

Reports say the Jacksboro Animal Shelter took a direct hit from the same storm.

A shelter has been set up in Jacksboro for anyone who may need it at the Twin Lakes Activity Center. The Jacksboro fire chief estimates about 60 to 80 homes were damaged.
