AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- Texas GOP Chairman Allen West said Sunday that he's running for Governor, creating another primary challenge for fellow Republican Greg Abbott.
"I can no longer sit on the sidelines and see what has happened in these United States ... and the place that I call home," West said in a video announcing his campaign during an appearance at Sojourn Church in Carrollton.
West announced his resignation as the state party chair about a month ago, but it won't go into effect until July 11. That's when the State Republican Executive Committee is set to name West's successor.
West is the second primary challenger to announce a run against Abbott, after former state Sen. Don Huffines of Dallas announced his bid last month.
