Sunny skies to start the new week as Central Texas continues to thaw

(Talk1370.com) -- Sunny skies will prevail to start the new week as Central Texas continues to thaw out following last week's extreme winter weather.

Highs will reach to near 70 Monday afternoon in Austin, with sunny skies and light northerly winds, shifting to the east later.


Clear skies will persist into Monday night, sending temperatures falling into the lower 40s as winds shift around to the south.

Here's a look at the extended forecast:

TUESDAY...Sunny. Highs in the lower 70s. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 25 mph in the afternoon.
TUESDAY NIGHT...Clear before midnight then becoming partly cloudy. Lows around 50. South winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph.
WEDNESDAY...Mostly cloudy in the morning then clearing. Highs in the mid 70s. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT...Partly cloudy before midnight then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows in the upper 40s.
THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT...Cooler. Cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers. Highs in the upper 50s. Lows in the upper 40s.
FRIDAY...Cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers in the morning, then partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs in the lower 60s.
FRIDAY NIGHT...Partly cloudy before midnight then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows in the upper 40s.
SATURDAY...Cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers. Highs in the upper 60s.
