The Texans' roster is close to fully vaccinated, with just a few holdovers left.

Coaches and players have characterized vaccinations as personal decisions, but there are clear consequences for the unvaccinated this season.

The NFL has said games and game checks will be forfeited if a game cannot be rescheduled within the 18-week regular season schedule due to a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated players.

Texans head coach David Culley said Monday that only "four or five" players are still unvaccinated.

"I feel really comfortable with it," Culley said when asked about his comfort level with the Texans' vaccination rate. "It’s been very high. I believe we have only got four or five guys who have not done it yet. Between now and whenever, they could do it. Obviously, there is a waiting period to do that, but we feel good about it."

The Texans have not been without their COVID-19 issues at camp.

Top cornerback Bradley Roby tested positive and missed time, including the preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers.

Star left tackle Laremy Tunsil also tested positive before the Packers game and was still on the reserve COVID-19 list as of Monday, though he attended Monday's practice, interacting with his teammates while wearing a mask. His positive test put to other fellow offensive linemen -- Tytus Howard and Roderick Johnson -- on the reserve COVID-19 list as close contacts.

When asked Monday, quarterback Tyrod Taylor would not reveal whether he'd been vaccinated, calling it "a personal matter." Taylor would not make a judgment on whether did say it's important for players to treat the coronavirus like it's still as dangerous as it was in 2020.

"I think guys on this team have taken the right precautions to do the right thing and to protect one another," Taylor said. "I mean, regardless of vaccine or not, I think you still have to treat it as if it's just as real as it was last year. I mean, you see how I have my mask on me and I try to keep it on at all times.

"I think that has to be the mindset moving forward for everyone, whether they are vaccinated or not, just because there's something coming out each and every day, so many new reports about it. In order for us to have everyone healthy this season we have to take the right precautions."
