The Westlake Chaparrals' 10-game winning streak in season openers is over. The No. 4 Chaps fell to No. 22 Prosper 29-22 on Friday in a stunning upset.
Prosper's massive offensive line, which features three Division I recruits, was key to the team's early success. The Eagles took a 27-7 lead into halftime with quarterback Braeden Imhoff throwing for three touchdowns, including a 78-yard strike to Dallas Boozer.
Westlake mounted a second-half comeback, holding Prosper's offense scoreless and allowing only two points on a safety. The Chaparrals closed the gap to 29-22 in the fourth quarter after a five-yard touchdown run and two-point conversion from quarterback Rees Wise. But after forcing a late punt, the Westlake offense couldn't get the equalizer, turning the ball over on downs with about a minute remaining.
Westlake returns to action next Friday night with a road trip to the Rio Grande Valley, to face the San Benito Greyhounds. Kickoff is set for 7pm Friday night; our coverage begins at 6pm with ATX Kickoff on Talk 1370.
