COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Voice of the Texas A&M Aggies Andrew Monaco recently appeared on Talk 1370's "The Thing About Sports" to discuss the team's approach ahead of a demanding four-game stretch in November. He emphasized that the bye week is dedicated to rigorous recalibration rather than stepping away from football.
"The bye week is not an off week," Monaco explained. "You have time off, but it's not an off week." Under head coach Mike Elko, continuous weekly reviews have replaced traditional midseason or bye week evaluations.
Following the Alabama matchup, the practice period focused on evaluating roster depth, developing rising talent, and preparing for an intense slate of ranked SEC opponents starting with South Carolina. Monaco underscored that the final month of the regular season carries crucial bowl game implications and deep personal significance, particularly for seniors entering the final stretch of their college careers.
Addressing potential lineup adjustments, Monaco noted, "You make that change when you can show in practice that the reps are consistent and you're consistently getting better. Are you ready for the speed and the intensity that comes on a Saturday?"
Reflecting on recent performances, Monaco commended the squad's resilience on the road while highlighting how slim the margin for error is in SEC competition. After falling behind 10-0 at Alabama, the Aggies rallied behind their rushing attack and steady execution from quarterback Marcel Reed, who maintained control under center even as backup Miles O'Neill warmed up on the sideline. However, self-inflicted mistakes—including an early interception that led to a touchdown.
