Astros place Aledmys Díaz on 10-day injured list with left groin discomfort

(SportsRadio 610) - Astros utility player Aledmys Díaz is on the 10-day injured with left groin discomfort, the team announced Wednesday.

Díaz left Tuesday night's game against the White Sox after making a running catch in left field at Guaranteed Rate Field. The Astros called up J.J. Matijevic from Triple A Sugar Land and he joined the club in Chicago.

MLB.com's Brian McTaggart reported Díaz is headed back to Houston to get examined.

While Díaz plays all of the infield positions and left field, Matijevic is mostly a first baseman and designated hitter.

SportsRadio 610's Adam Spolane pointed out the Díaz injury opens up playing time for Chas McCormick, who's been somewhat displaced in the lineup with the return of Jake Meyers in center field and in-season trades for Mauricio Dubon and Trey Mancini.

The Astros have lost back-to-back games against the White Sox in Chicago. Houston led in both before eventually giving it up late in games.

On Wednesday night, Houston's Framber Valdez (11-4) takes the mound against Chicago's Michael Kopech (4-8).
