(SportsRadio 610) - Astros closer Ryan Pressly is expected back soon after dealing with right knee inflammation last week, general manager James Click said Monday ahead of the team's home-opener.
The Astros announced Pressly's place on the 10-day injured list Saturday, retroactive to Thursday, April 14.
According to Click, the knee inflammation is what is believed to have contributed to Pressly's dip in velocity.
"He's feeling great," said Click, who had just spoken with Pressly at Minute Maid Park. "Something in there was barking and just didn't quite feel right, so they drained a little bit of fluid. He's expected to be back very, very soon. He's in good spirits. He's open that was what was causing a little bit of the velo dip. But long term prognosis is great. It's just a very, very minor thing."
Pressly, a two-time All-Star for the Astros, has posted a 2.70 ERA, 1.50 WHIP with three saves in four games (3.1 innings pitched) so far this season.
Shortly before Opening Day, Pressly signed a two-year contract worth $30 million guaranteed, which includes a vesting option that can push the total value to $42 million.
The pitching staff is already without starter Lance McCullers Jr., who was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday with a flexor strain.
