(SportsRadio 610) -- Astros starter Lance McCullers Jr. is on the 10-day injured list with right soreness, the team announced Wednesday.
The move is retro to Sunday, May 23, the day after McCullers' last start in Arlington against the Texas Rangers. McCullers felt sore after that start, and manager Dusty Baker says putting in on the IL is a precautionary move.
The Astros are calling up Ralph Garza Jr. from the Class AAA Sugar Land Skeeters to the big league roster. To make room on the 40-man roster, Josh James is being moved to the 60-day injured list.
There is good news for Houston's pitching going forward. Lefty Framber Valdez is scheduled to start in his season debut for the Astros on Friday after recovering from a broken left ring finger.
Right-hander Jake Odorizzi, recovering from a right pronator muscle strain, will start for Houston on Saturday.
Cristian Javier will head to the bullpen after nine starts. Javier posted a 1.027 WHIP with a 3.14 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 48.2 innings pitched. He started the season strong, but Javier's command sputtered in May.
