Before Tuesday night's game in Seattle the Astros announced they have placed Zack Greinke and Taylor Jones on the Injured List due to health and safety protocols.

Astros manager Dusty Baker could not elaborate further on the status of either player, but he did announce Greinke would miss his scheduled start in San Diego this weekend. Josh James and Robel Garcia have been recalled from the Taxi Squad to take their place on the 26-man roster.

Despite a poor start in Arlington on Sunday, Greinke is 11-5 this season with a 3.66 ERA, and he leads the American League with 159.2 innings pitched. This weekend will mark the first time he's missed a turn in the rotation since joining the Astros two years ago.

Baker indicated Jose Urquidy will take Greinke's spot in the rotation and that the Astros will go back to a 6-man starting staff when Greinke returns.

Jones is batting .245 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 35 games with the Astros in 2021.
