(SportsRadio 610) -- The Astros' win Thursday night on a walk-off wild pitch against the Rangers was the 10th in franchise history and had not happened since July 19, 1999 against Cleveland.
It was a wild pitch by Tom Candiotti, which scored Bill Spiers from third.
Candiotti's wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th allowed Spiers to score after having walked earlier in the inning.
The Astros scored the winning run without a hit in the inning after Candiotti walked Spiers and hit Tim Bogar with a pitch to start the inning.
Spiers, as producer Tyler Milner notes, was one of the better utility players of his time.
Of course, there was no automatic extra innings baserunner in 1999.
On Thursday, the Rangers loaded the bases with an intentional walk to Alex Bregman that brought up Chas McCormick, who'd pinch run earlier for slugger Yordan Alvarez.
That's a managerial decision that could have come back to bite Dusty Baker, but Rangers reliever Brett Martin bounced one to allow the speedy Straw to race home from third to win the game.
“It was weird," Straw said after the game. "I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a walk-off like that."
