Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez flew back to Houston with neck discomfort Monday as the team prepares to face the MLB-leading Tampa Bay Rays in a three-game road series.
Alvarez was sent back to Houston (12-10) for further examination, but it is unclear how much time he will miss. Manager Dusty Baker told reporters it's unclear if Alvarez will need time on the injured list, or if he will be available during the Rays series.
Alvarez leads Houston with 27 RBIs, the most ever by an Astros player in the first 22 games of a season. He is slashing .257/.367/.533 for a .900 OPS with six home runs in 75 at-bats.
