Other than Mauricio Dubón homering on the second pitch of the game, the Astros did not produce a ton of offense Tuesday night when they fell 5-1 to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Hunter Brown gave up three runs in six innings with a pair of home runs to former Astros outfielder George Springer in the third inning and Daulton Varsho in the fourth. Varsho's homer was originally ruled in-play, but the call was overturned to a home run after an umpire review.
Meanwhile, the Astros mustered just three hits after the leadoff blast by Dubón and committed two errors in the field.
Brown (5-3, 3.69 ERA) gave up just three hits, though two of them were homers for three earned runs, struck out five and walked three.
Phil Maton pitched a scoreless inning in relief, before Rafael Montero gave a home run to Bo Bichette in the eighth inning. That's when it really seemed to fall apart for Houston, with Martin Maldonado committing a throwing error on a pickoff attempt and Kyle Tucker pop foul ball.
The series is now even with Ronel Blanco (1-0, 4.15 ERA, 1.90 WHIP, 21 strikeouts) taking the mound for Houston on Wednesday. Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt (6-4, 3.41 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 65 strikeouts) takes the mound for Toronto.
