DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Audacy insider Brian Scalabrine just gave Mavs fans everywhere the hope they were looking for during his Thursday morning interview with Shan and RJ on 105.3 The Fan.

Despite Luka Doncic's status being up in the air for the first-round series vs. the Utah Jazz while he works his way back from a strained left calf, Scalabrine said it doesn't matter if the superstar steps foot on the court during the opening round, because the result will be the same.

"Early on, I had the Dallas Mavericks winning in five (games). But based off of (Luka's injury), let's just say he sits out four games. … I have no idea how many games he's going to sit out because this calf thing is weird. But if he sits out four games, I could see this being a six or seven-game series," Scalabrine said. "But I do think, even if he doesn't play, I think they'll beat the Utah Jazz. Even if he doesn't play a single minute in the series.

"I think Utah is (a) dead man walking. I think they're going to blow it up after this offseason. I think they're going to try to reshuffle the deck. I just feel like something's about to happen. There are a lot of expectations for Ryan Smith, who just brought the team, (and) they thought they were going to be a championship contender. And you just watched this season and you realize that they're not. No matter what happens (with Luka), I think Dallas will get out of this series."

Meanwhile, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd continues to inform the media during his post-practice appearances that Doncic "is in great spirits," and they are taking his status day by day.

Game 1 against the Jazz will tip-off at noon CT on Saturday, April 16.
