DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - You likely won't find anyone that believes Florida tight end Kyle Pitts will still be available when the Cowboys make the 10th overall selection next Thursday. But don't tell that to the Cowboys.
Cowboys COO Stephen Jones told the GBag Nation Friday on 105.3 The Fan that the team has conducted mock drafts to prepare them for the actual draft, and in some of those mock drafts, a certain tight end was still on the board.
"Oh, yeah. Oh yeah," Jones said when asked if Pitts was still on the board during some of their mock drafts. "You don't have to look very far. We have a version that we call the cliffs (cliff notes). It really compiles all the media about the Cowboys that we get every day. You don't have to look very far to see mock drafts that have no tight end get picked in the top-9 picks. That wouldn't be a knock you off your feet scenario in terms of a tight end not being picked in the top-9 picks. Because if you believe there are five quarterbacks that could go in the top-10, I think there's going to be 14-15 players that are worthy of being picked in the top-10 if you say all five quarterbacks are picked."
We already know Jerry Jones is "infatuated" with Pitts, so their interest in him isn't a surprise at all. It's just very unlikely that he'll still be on the board when they make their selection.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported earlier Friday that Dallas is unlikely to trade up for any player, so Pitts will have to fall into the Cowboys' lap, just as CeeDee Lamb did last year.
