DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys don't have a kicker on their roster after they cut Brett Maher on Tuesday. But the move was by design.
According to multiple reports, including Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News and Todd Archer of ESPN, Maher is expected to be their kicker in Week 1 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after the organization makes additional roster moves following Tuesday's 3 p.m. CT deadline for teams to get down to their final 53-man rosters.
The Cowboys needed the roster spots for players such as left tackle Tyron Smith (hamstring) and James Washington (foot), who can be placed on injured reserve after Tuesday's 3 p.m. CT deadline, permitting them to return as early as Week 5.
Once those moves are finalized, Maher should be back in the fold.
