Cowboys VP of Player Personnel Will McClay isn't going anywhere.

During his conference call with the media Friday, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed a report from ESPN's Todd Archer that McClay had turned down interview opportunities with other organizations and would remain with the team's front office.

"This is obviously great for the Dallas Cowboys," McCarthy said, via DallasCowboys.com. "He's very important to our operation, without a doubt. The most important you want in an organization is, when things are right, to build off consistency."

Later Friday afternoon, McClay confirmed that he would return next season, which happens to be the final year of his contract.

"I talked to a couple of people, but I didn't want to waste anybody's time," McClay said on Monday, via DallasCowboys.com. "I am committed to being here. The commitment I made to my son and the organization. I'm going to roll with it. I have another year left on my contract.

"I think it's just a process. When you're somewhere where you enjoy and respect and trust the work of other people around you, it's really hard to beat," McClay said. "With what we have set up with the pro staff and the college staff and the way we find players and our process and belief in it … The coaches working with us and the ownership support, we all work for somebody. I'm just happy with the way we do things and I look forward to trying to continue to build it that way."

According to Archer, the Washington Commanders and Los Angeles Chargers were pursuing McClay for their general manager vacancies and had requested to speak with the Cowboys executive. The Carolina Panthers had also sought a meeting with McClay about running their front office, per multiple reports.

The Commanders hired 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters to be their next GM, multiple outlets reported on Friday.

McClay has been with the Cowboys in various positions since 2003, beginning his time as a scout, before moving to the player personnel side in 2014. He was then named the VP of Player Personnel in 2017.

Thanks to his success in drafting, scouting and player evaluation, McClay has become very well respected and coveted across the NFL.
