Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Smith completely tore his plantar fascia in Saturday's 20-19 win over the Lions, but that could actually help his availability for Sunday's game against the Commanders and the team's playoff run.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones spoke Tuesday about Smith's injury and his status to begin the week.
"I don't know the status. I don't know that anybody does this morning," Jones said on 'Shan and RJ' on 105.3 The Fan. "But because of what happens with a plantar fascia injury - they [the doctors] really root for it to completely tear. And if it does, apparently, it's a lot more realistic to think that they could almost go right back out there (and play). … I'm going to be very positive about it. It'll take quite an effort on his part to be there and be productive for us.
I don't want in any way want to dismiss that Tyler could be out there as early as this week. We'll see how it goes. It really has to do with dealing with pain (management). The injury itself is doable to play on."
Those comments correlate with what coach Mike McCarthy said about Smith's injury during his press conference on Monday.
“He’s sore,” McCarthy said, via DallasCowboys.com. “We’ll find out more on Wednesday. He has a chance, is how it’s been described.”
T.J. Bass entered the game for Smith on Saturday and would be set to fill in once again should Smith be unavailable this week and beyond.
