(SportsRadio 610) - Five training camp practices in, here are some observations:
1. New WR Chester Rodgers was on the field and rocking the Keke Coutee Throwback aka jersey number 16.
2. WR Davion Davis was out with a hamstring per Brooks Kubena.
3. Justin Britt had a veteran day off to rest. Backup centers are going to be ready this season because of Britt’s issues staying healthy. Davis Mills told us Monday the center is VERY important in this system.
4. Cam Johnston is a total weapon. He has been punting so well that even special teams coach Frank Ross is quiet during some punt team reps.
5. Jeff Driskel broke an NFL Network camera on an overthrow against air.
6. Steven Nelson had a really nice pass break-up on Brandin Cooks in one-on-one drills on a fade that he knocked outta Cooks’ hands.
7. On their next rep Cooks got the last laugh, juking Nelson en route to a TD on another fade.
8. Derek Stingley had the only interception in one-on-ones on a fade route, it was the first pick Mills has thrown all camp.
9. Nelson and Cooks were BATTLING. After splitting the first two reps Cooks made a TD catch right at the pylon on a play where the coverage was perfect and there was really nothing the defensive back could’ve done better.
10. Drowning Pool’s Let The Bodies Hit The Floor made it onto the playlist in the second hour of practice. Sean Pendergast was the only one who approved and it took him back to the WWF days, Summerslam 2001 to be exact.
11. Another full house of fans. Not an empty seat in the fan section.
12. Max Sharping got some reps with the first-team at guard and the second-team at right tackle.
13. Mario Addison was on the sidelines in a bucket hat and very vocal with his fellow defensive linemen. If you want an idea of what kind of mentor the 35-year-old is for younger players here ya go …
14. Pharaoh Brown continues to shine in practice, hasn’t had a bad one yet. Today he caught a TD in the back of the end zone from Mills.
15. Cooks is the clear star on this team. It’s a joy to watch him work.
