
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (UT Athletics) — In their first true road test in SEC play, the No. 5 Texas Longhorns earned a 27-24 victory at No. 25 Vanderbilt on Saturday at FirstBank Stadium.
Quinn Ewers, who has now thrown a touchdown pass in 19-straight games completed 27-of-37 passes for 288 yards and three touchdowns. Quintrevion Wisner rushed for 79 yards and DeAndre Moore Jr. caught six passes for 97 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Trailing 7-0, the Longhorns (7-1, 3-1) came back with a 9-play, 75-yard drive, ending on a one-handed touchdown catch by Matthew Golden. Ewers completed 8-of-8 passes on the drive.
The Longhorns used only 1:38 of game time on their next possession and went 49 yards on four plays and scored on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Ewers to DeAndre Moore Jr., to go up 14-7.
With Vanderbilt driving in Texas territory, Michael Taaffe intercepted Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia to end the Commodore drive. The takeaway was the 11th interception of the season by the Longhorn defense. Texas has forced a turnover in all eight games this season and 16-straight going back to 2023.
Moore Jr. added a 25-yard touchdown reception from Ewers at the 5:05 mark of the second quarter to put the Longhorns up 21-7. It was the 17th straight completion for Ewers.
Vanderbilt cut the Texas lead to 24-17 with 4:13 to go in the fourth quarter, but with Vanderbilt facing a fourth down and two yards to go, Liona Lefau came away with an interception to give the Texas offense the ball. Bert Auburn converted a 23-yard field goal to extend the Texas lead to 27-17.
