In what the Astros hope will be his final tuneup outing before his 2021 Major League debut, Jake Odorizzi allowed three runs over 5.2 innings in an exhibition game in Round Rock on Thursday night.
Thursday's outing was Odorizzi's fourth since signing with the Astros last month. He appeared in two Grapefruit League games and pitched a simulated game at the Astros Alternate Training site in Corpus Christi April 3. Thursday's start came against minor leaguers from the Texas Rangers organization.
Odorizzi threw 90 pitches against the Rangers on Thursday night, 58 for strikes and he finished with five strikeouts. He allowed five hits, one of which was a three-run homer off the bat of Rangers prospect Anderson Tejeda.
Astros general manager James Click said Thursday afternoon the plan is for Odorizzi to make his Astros debut next week against the Detroit Tigers.
