It seems like a little rest has been beneficial for Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.
According to team owner Jerry Jones, Elliott is likely to play in the team's Week 10 matchup against the Packers in Green Bay.
"I do [think he'll play]," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan's K&C Masterpiece on Friday. "Everything I've seen -- I watched him yesterday, got a report on the practice. We'll see how he looks out here in a few minutes, but I think he's on the go."
Elliott was officially listed as questionable for the Packers game after missing the team's Week 8 victory over the Chicago Bears due to a knee injury.
Against the Bears, backup running back Tony Pollard erupted for 131 yards and three touchdowns on a mere 14 carries.
But with an additional week of rest due to a bye in Week 9, Elliott appears poised to resume his role as the Cowboys' bell cow. He last suited up on October 23, when the Cowboys beat the Lions in Week 7.
And it's not just Elliott who seems to be on the mend.
Offensive tackle Tyron Smith, who went down in training camp with a knee injury, has resumed workouts and, according to Jones, could be back in the fold "near the playoffs."
"I'm just reminded anytime of how fast that evaporate right before your eyes -- losing these guys. But when I look ahead and think that we could have Tyron Smith back in this hunt when we get near the playoffs, now that's awesome. we talk about a lot of aspects that could impact us both positively and negatively -- of course as we all know it's attrition, so you can lose players -- but to think that a Tyron Smith could get back. Now it's realistic to know that he could step in and play. This guy doesn't have to have the weeks and weeks to get ready to play that a lot of younger players would have to have."
In Tyron Smith's absence, rookie Tyler Smith has stepped in and played well, and Jones is giddy at the thought of having an wealth of riches with respect to the offensive line.
"So, the bottom line is, when you think about a left tackle added to the mix like that, that'll get your adrenaline running, and especially since the other Smith boy, Tyler, has been getting all these reps, and what he can do to step in there to give us the position flexibility, I get a little excited about what we can do in protection and in the run game."
