DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys owner Jerry Jones did his best to throw the media several curveballs at the team's pre-draft press conference Tuesday.

First, Jones said he thinks the best defensive players may still be on the board when the Cowboys pick at No. 10 thanks to a potential run on quarterbacks and other offensive players.

"I think we have a good chance to have the top, or one of the top, defensive players be there at No. 10,” Jones said.

Jones, of course, is hinting at Alabama cornerback Patrick Surtain II and South Carolina corner Jaycee Horn.

However, Jones was asked about the possibility that they'll draft the best player available no matter what position they play, just as they did last season when they picked Oklahoma wide out CeeDee Lamb.

"Don’t be stupid over your needs. ... What is exciting about the 10th pick is you got a chance to do something unconventional," Jones said.

In other words, let the Kyle Pitts rumors fly.
