Injuries have pretty much been a constant for the Dallas Cowboys offensive line, but it sounds like Tyron Smith dodged a bullet.
The veteran left tackle suffered a stinger in practice, making him a surprise addition to the injury report Thursday with a neck injury. Smith has had neck issues in the past, to the point that surgery was required in 2020.
However, Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones struck an encouraged tone Friday on K&C Masterpiece when asked about Smith’s status.
“Yeah, I’m optimistic, period,” Jones said. “He, of course, was involved in a couple practices out there without his – he uses a neck roll to kind of keep that neck from going in that direction a lot. So, we’ve gotta keep that on him when he practices. He didn’t have that earlier in the week, but I’m feeling good about his availability Sunday.”
The eight-time Pro Bowl selection missed Week 3 and 4 with a knee injury, but returned for Week 5. Provided Smith is active Sunday, the Cowboys should have their full collection of starting offensive linemen available against the Rams.
