It would be an understatement to say Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale has a lot riding on this World Series. Ten million, in fact, with wagers spread across various sportsbooks including Caesars, BetMGM, Wynn, Unibet, Betfred and Barstool Sports.
The 71-year-old proprietor of Houston-based Gallery Furniture saw his chance at a $75-million fortune—which would be the largest recorded payout in the history of sports betting—slipping away Tuesday night in Philadelphia, as the Phillies beat the Astros in a 7-0.
But the series is far from over. The Astros have an opportunity to tie it 2-2 with Cristian Javier on the mound in game four.
With tempers flaring in the stadium concourse, where the Astros superfan was confronted by hecklers. McIngvale went scorched earth on his detractors, unleashing a stream of profanity that would make Samuel L. Jackson blush.
McIngvale explained he was sticking up for the Astros, but lost his composure as the hecklers pestered him.
"I was told by several people these were the worst fans ever and I underestimated how bad they are," McIngvale told Fox 26. "But we'll live through it and we'll win tonight. Hopefully, that will quiet them down. ... When they talk bad about my boys, I go crazy. So that's just the way it is. I'm a Houston Astros fan. I'm a Houston guy. To say that they beat us and rub that in, that's fine. To talk about our guy's character, that draws the line."
