Well respected NFL writer Peter King has the Eagles as the favorites to land Texans QB Deshaun Watson.
King, who admitted this situation is "impossible" to predict, has a "gut feeling" he'll land in Philadelphia, listing the Eagles as the 3-1 co-favorites with the Carolina Panthers.
"3-1: Philadelphia. A likely need, plus Eagles are in perfect position to deal with three first-round picks (if Carson Wentz plays three-quarters of the Indy season)," King wrote in his latest Football Morning in America column for ProFootballTalk.com.
The Eagles have been linked to Watson in reports multiple times over the last few months, including one from CBS Sports' Insider Jason La Canfora calling Philadelphia "strong suitors" for Watson.
Eagles reporter Jeff McLane confirmed La Canfora's report two days later stating that the Eagles "recently inquired” with the Texans about trading for Watson.
Complicating the Watson situation is the sexual assault allegations against the 25-year-old three-time Pro Bowl QB, something the NFL has begun investigating. Watson has strongly denied the allegations. The Eagles would have to feel very comfortable trading for Watson if they were going to trade the assets it would take to make him their new franchise quarterback.
King also wrote about the Eagles' draft capital for the 2022 NFL Draft, as they currently have eight picks in the first five rounds.
"Clearly, the Eagles will be the power-brokers next spring," King says. "I’d bet a cheesesteak GM Howie Roseman isn’t finished trading in the first round."
